School Uniform 

Our aims for school uniform at Cheney Shool are:

  • All pupils at Cheney School identify with the school by being proud to wear the school uniform.
  • Parents support the wearing of school uniform.
  • The local community recognises our pupils.
  • Students develop a sense of pride in the school and professionalism to prepare them for the world of work.

Benefits of have a school uniform are:

  • The differences between pupils are reduced, which in turn reduces some of the causes of isolation and bullyinh
  • Self esteen of particular groups of pupils may be improved
  • Security is improved - it's easy to spot who does and does not belong to the school community
  • Pupils feel a stronger sense of belinging and commitment to the school
  • It improves the image of the school in the local community
  • Ut creates  sense of purpose within the school environment
Uniform List for all Students Year 7-11


  • Polo Shirts (compulsory) - plain white polo shirt with no markings or logos.
  • V-Neck Sweater/cardigan (optional) - grey, available only from the SWI website. This is not in place  of the blazer which must be worn at all times.
  • Blazer (compulsory) - grey with the school crest, available only from the SWI website (
  • Salwar Kameez in black only


  • Black smart trousers. These must not be of stretchy material.
  • Black skirt worn no higher than two inches above the knee (A line or box pleated), not elasticated, bandage style skirts
  • Plain black opaque or nude tights (no patterns) can be worn with skirts
  • Salwar Kameez in black only

No jeans, leggings, jogging bottoms, jeggings, treggings or denim of any kind are acceptable.


  • Black or white headscarf


  •  Black shoes or trainers only, with no colouring at all - this includes the sole.
  • No boots allowed. In bad weather wellingtons may be worn to school but not in school.

PE - students should have a full change of clothing for participation in PE

  • A red T-shirt for PE.  If you still have one, the old Cheney School red sweatshirt can be used for PE only.

  • Black jogging bottoms for PE with white socks and trainers.

Additional coats for warmth or protection against rain must be worn over the school blazer.

No hats, hoodies, non-uniform tops, denim or leather jackets may be worn in school.  If worn, they must be removed before entering the school gates and put in lockers or school bags until students exit the school gates. No unnatural hair colouring or extreme hairstyles.

  • An apron or overalls for subjects such as Design & Technology, Art and Science, students are advised to protect their clothing with an apron or overall.

  • No jewellery at all - except for one pair of stud earrings, one chain and one ring. All jewellery must be removed for P.E. and games lessons.  The school cannot be held responsible for any losses.

  • Minimal make-up – no lipstick, no heavy eye make-up, no false nails. Some subjects will require no nail varnish, removal of jewellery and tying back of hair.

  • No inappropriate logos / writing on bags etc.

  • Hair should not be styled in an overly exaggerated manner, e.g. shaved patters or unnatural hair colours
